This Raku vase is a replica of traditional pottery while going through a process that is volatile and always provides unique results. This process, unlike our other pottery, is not food safe, waterproof or as durable - instead of allowing a piece to go through the entirety of the typical process, we remove the piece from the kiln while it is still red hot and either allow the piece to cool quickly on it’s own (the oxygen in the air provides color change to the surface of the piece) or we throw the piece into a container with combustible materials and let those materials influence the surface color and texture.
This particular piece was cooled via the first method, where the air influences how the colors develop into the finished product.
Since this piece is not only handmade but also went through the Raku process, we can guarantee that between the size, the shape, and the final finish, it is truly one-of-a-kind.
